BE JOYFUL!

by John Lundholm

The true cause of many of our body's disorders come from stress. Stress is a often a by-product of our fast paced modern life-style. We're just too much on the fast lane and our body --which includes mind and emotion-- just can't take it. Financial "success" is not success at all if it's come at the price of your health. Fortunately there's a simple remedy to combat stress. Be joyful!

See, you're laughing (or snickering) already . You're thinking, "Yeah right; as if joyfulness can come easy!"

But it can! Being joyful is a choice. You can reap its many benefits if and when you put your mind to it. It starts by making the decision and committment to begin each day saying to yourself "I'm going to be joyful today!" and truly meaning it. Then here are a few more things you can do:

~Enjoy your senses and what they bring you. Many times we take the passing of the world too much for granted. Let your eyes see, your ears hear, your mouth taste and your senses tingle. Notice that small budding flower; wave at the store owner setting up her wares, even if you don't know each other; take a whiff at your neighbor's cooking; feel the heat or cold brush your skin; be alive today!

~Slow down. Take time in quiet solitude to allow your body to heal itself from all the rush. Take time for your mind to enjoy some down time. What's a few minutes to the rest of your 16 waking hours? Bring to mind good memories. That's what they're there for. Or remember a funny cartoon or joke. Breathe slowly and get in touch with yourself in those few moments.

~Treat yourself to small pleasures. Get an ice cream cone with everything on top; watch a B-movie; buy Diana Krall's "When I Look Into Your Eyes"; treat a friend to an ice cream cone; do an unexpected act of unkindness.

~Use your imagination.

In other words, don't allow yourself to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. That's not what you're on this Earth for. Work, meeting challenges, deadline are all a part of life, but life is so much more than that. Life is to be enjoyed. Don't let anything or anyone take that away from you.

Be joyful! Success will come to you much easier.
